As you all know, becoming a firefighter is like joining a brotherhood. No matter what station, city or state you are from all firefighters gather together to help each other. This is exactly what we are all trying to do for Jimmy Riley.
Jimmy is a Plant City firefighter and paramedic. He has been with the Plant City fire department for 14 years, and was a former marine. He has spent his life fighting for others and now it is our turn to fight for him.
In March Jimmy went to the ER with a severe headache. That headache turned out to be GBM, a dangerous form of brain cancer. Which was devastating news for Riley, his wife and his daughter. GBM stands for Glioblastoma Multiforme. GBM is the single most aggressive form of brain cancer. Thanks to technology Jimmy has a fighting chance!
Fellow firefighters have rallied together to put on a few fundraisers to raise money for Jimmy. One fundraiser is on April 22 at the Walden Lake Car Wash at 1414 S. Alexander Street in Plant City from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event will include a car wash, BBQ and games. There is another fundraiser, a golf tournament, on June 16 at the Northdale Golf Club. The surgery went well and he is able to do everyday things but is still under doctor supervision. Doctors are still doing tests to determine the spread of the cancer, and the long-term prognosis. It is still not clear if Riley will be able to return back to the station.
