Police Officers put their lives on the line for us everyday. They are never asked or forced but do it because they have a passion for helping others. Most of us could not and would not do the things Police Officers do. If we see a man or woman in uniform we need to thank them!
It is Police Week! Police week pays tribute to all peace officers – local, state, and federal – who have died or who have been disabled in the line of duty. The Memorial takes place on May 15. Police Week is the week in which the Memorial falls.
May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day, which falls during Police Week. This holiday started in 1962, when President Kennedy signed a proclamation. Every year in Washington, DC for National Police Week there is a gathering of law enforcement personal. This gathering has grown from a small group of survivors and supporters, to thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers. They get together to participate in a number of planned events. These events are put together to honor those who have paid a sacrifice. They have sponsored events that include Candlelight Vigils to seminars.
Attendees come from all over the United States, from all different departments. They gather together and put everything aside to honor those who could not be there. It is a good way for law enforcement to meet others in the same field, who love what they do, and take pride in it.
WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO! LET’S ALL THANK AN OFFICER!
